Josef Newgarden laid down the gauntlet by winning the NTT IndyCar Series race at the 1-mile oval. He delivered a win to team owner Penske and increased the pressure on the Cup Series side of the building.

One day later, Ryan Blaney won the Cup Series race after gambling with a two-tire stop after the final caution. This put him ahead of Christopher Bell, who had opted for four tires after dominating the race. Bell had the speed to get back to second place, but he could not chase down Blaney in the closing laps.

Kyle Larson, Ty Gibbs, Denny Hamlin, Bubba Wallace, William Byron, Tyler Reddick, Michael McDowell, and Erik Jones all scored top-10 finishes after a race featuring a record-tying 12 cautions.
And while the 2023 Cup Series champ had one of the best cars, he did not have a smooth afternoon at the race track. He had to rebound from two loose wheels. One forced him to return to pit road while the other forced him to stop in Joey Logano's pit box before exiting pit road.
Both issues dropped Blaney out of contention for the win, but he had the speed and ability to work back through the pack at his best track. He passed 49 total cars and scored his second consecutive win at Phoenix Raceway.
"I mean, everybody on the 12 group persevered all day," Blaney told Fox Sports. "We had a couple mistakes that we learned from, got better, had to come from the back a couple times.
"Obviously the 20 was the best car. Jonathan (Hassler, crew chief) made a great call to take two. We were able to get the lead. Hold them off.
"I don't know how many more laps I could have held them off. We were able to do that. Really proud of everybody at Team Penske. We swept the weekend, Newgarden winning yesterday, us winning today. Can't wait to see Roger."
