Ryan Blaney Shows Interest In Indy-Charlotte Double

Ryan Blaney could be looking to make more headlines following his 2023 NASCAR Cup Series Championship. The Team Penske driver has had some chats with his boss Roger Penske about the future possibility of trying his hand in the Indianapolis 500.

Kyle Larson will be doing the double this May, as he will race the Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on the same day. It isn't an easy feat.

That challenge, along with being able to drive for his team owner Roger Penske, has piqued Blaney's interest.

According to Kelly Crandall from Racer, Blaney approached Penske about the idea over the past several weeks, and Penske elaborated on their conversation during the NASCAR's Champion's Week celebration in Nashville.

"Blaney said to me at some point over the last several weeks that he would like to go to Indy," Penske said. "I was like, 'Whoa, slow down a little bit.' We're good to have everybody come to Indy, but if we can have the double and play up Memorial Day at both Charlotte and Indianapolis, it'll be great."

It would be a great opportunity for Blaney, but it isn't likely to happen in 2024 because it's a little late given he has never been behind the wheel of an IndyCar. It could be on the table in the future, however because Penske owns both the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the IndyCar Series, in addition to an IndyCar team.

Blaney talked with Bob Pockrass from Fox Sports about how trying the double has been on his mind for quite some time.

"Honestly, it's something that's bounced around my mind for a couple of years," Blaney said. "It's something I feel like... if you could do the double, that's cool. Larson is doing it next year. That's going to be great. I've poked around that idea with (Penske) for a couple of years now, and I might have to bring it back up, so we'll see where that goes."

Now that he has proven himself as a NASCAR Cup Champion, perhaps it's time for Blaney to tackle the double.
