The Trackhouse Racing driver battled an ill-handling car during the final stage of Sunday's race in Northern California, and he held off Chase Briscoe in the closing laps to snag his eighth road course win. Now, the only driver with more road course wins in Cup Series history is Jeff Gordon (9).
He also capped off the weekend sweep after also winning Saturday's O'Reilly Auto Parts Series race for JR Motorsports.

"Yeah, what a day," van Gisbergen told TNT Sports after the race. "We were really bad yesterday, and these guys did an amazing job turning this car into a winner.
"The 19 (Briscoe) was coming. He was really, really good, and I ran out at the end. But thank you to Red Bull, Trackhouse, Chevy. Pretty special to make up for last week, too (being involved in a crash at San Diego)."
Briscoe finished second in the race. Ty Gibbs, who swept the two stages, finished third. Kyle Larson and Christopher Bell closed out the top five.

Van Gisbergen led the most laps (74) at Sonoma Raceway as many expected, but he also made history while benefiting from changes to the NASCAR schedule. He reached eight road course wins in 68 Cup Series starts, by far the fastest in series history.
Obviously, Stewart and Gordon raced when the series only traveled to Watkins Glen International and Sonoma Raceway. This season's schedule featured four road course races. Last season's schedule featured six. Van Gisbergen won five of them.
While van Gisbergen has tied Stewart, he can't chase down Gordon this season. He will have to wait until 2027 when more road courses land on the Cup Series schedule.
However, he can focus on something quite important in the immediate future. He is back above the cutline for The Chase. Now, his goal is to continue improving on ovals and keep himself in contention for a championship.
