SRX Series Postpones 2024 Season, Future In Question

The SRX Racing Series has been a huge success during the summer, as it has pitted some of the biggest names in the NASCAR world against drivers from IndyCar and other backgrounds.

The 2024 season was set to run this summer, continuing its six-race schedule it has run since the series' debut season in 2021.

However, some disappointing news has come out only a handful of days after the announcement that Hall of Fame crew chief Ray Evernham had joined Rob Kauffman to purchase the rights to the IROC brand.

The very popular SRX short-track series was founded by Evernham, Tony Stewart, George Pyne and Sandy Montag in 2021, but last year Evernham took a step back when the series hired Don Hawk to be the CEO. Evernham's absence may have been part of the issues that look to be plaguing the series.

In an official statement posted on social media, SRX announced its fourth season would be postponed.

"It is with deep disappointment that we announce the postponement of SRX's fourth season," the statement said. "We entered the next phase of our racing series with great anticipation and excitement for what was ahead. Our expectations, however, have been tempered by market factors that have proven too much to overcome."

According to Forbes.com, Everham's announcement that he and Kauffman intend to revive IROC may be why SRX is on hold, but money sounds like the bigger issue.

Evernham's IROC plans include at least one race in 2024 using older IROC cars instead of brand-new racecars.

The first three seasons of SRX didn't disappoint fans with three different champions, and while the series is postponing 2024, it hopes to continue at some future date.

"The racing industry continues to evolve, and we are actively exploring strategic options for the series' long-term potential," SRX's statement said. "We made this announcement now to allow our partners the time and flexibility to best serve their interests."

This is goodbye, for now, and hopefully not forever for SRX.
