While rookie Gio Ruggiero scored his first career win, multiple playoff contenders saw their championship dreams take a hit due to incidents on the track.

The first unfolded on Lap 4 of the playoff race. Grant Enfinger, the defending Talladega winner, spun after off-center contact from Chandler Smith. This sent him into the pack, where he hit multiple trucks. This included Jake Garcia, Ty Majeski, and Daniel Hemric.

Enfinger could not finish the race, so he ended the day in last place. He fell from four points below the cutline to 40 points below heading into the Round of 8 finale at Martinsville Speedway. Majeski, meanwhile, finished third with a significantly damaged truck. He moved to five points below the cutline.

The issues continued in the opening stage with Layne Riggs, who spun after a push from Smith. Riggs hit the outside wall and fellow driver Connor Mosack before heading back to pit road.

Riggs continued in the race and finished fifth in overtime, but he dealt with tire issues throughout the day. This kept him from accumulating any stage points. He fell to six points below the cutline.

"I'm just glad that it was in one piece," Riggs told Fox Sports. "I know Chandler gave me a pretty bad push getting down into the corner there, and we both wrecked. Just so glad that wasn't a day-ender."

Hemric fell far below the cutline after multiple incidents at Talladega. He sustained damage in the Lap 4 incident and then he fell off the pace on Lap 53 due to a flat tire. Hemric did not have the opportunity to go back to his pit stall for another tire as Toni Breidinger slammed into his No. 19 Chevrolet from behind.

This contact caused significant damage and sent Hemric behind the wall. He ended the day in 34th place and fell to 32 points below the cutline. Like Enfinger, Hemric must win at Martinsville Speedway to reach the Championship 4.

While these playoff contenders dealt with issues at Talladega Superspeedway, multiple others capitalized with solid points. This includes Rajah Caruth, who moved to 14 points above the cutline by winning stage 1, scoring another eight points in stage 2, and finishing ninth.

Tyler Ankrum moved to eight points above the cutline by scoring eight stage points and finishing sixth in the race. Kaden Honeycutt moved to five points above the cutline by scoring 14 stage points and finishing 10th.

One race remains in the Round of 8 for Truck Series drivers. They will take on Martinsville Speedway on Friday, Oct. 24. This race will determine which three drivers join Roval winner Corey Heim in the Championship 4.
