Tyler Reddick's brutal summer stretch continued on Sunday at Iowa Speedway. He crashed early in the opening stage and took out another Toyota teammate.

The series leader in wins lost control of the No. 45 23XI Racing Toyota Camry XSE on the fourth lap of the Cup Series race. His car shot to the right and slammed into the No. 43 Legacy Motor Club Toyota driven by Erik Jones.
Reddick's car then slammed into the outside wall while bringing Jones' car with it. The two drivers took their cars back to the DVP area in the garage, but their teams could not do anything to get them back on track. They just ended the day.

Reddick finished 36th and on Lap 3. Jones had a 35th-place finish after being credited with four laps complete. The two drivers then met up in the garage so that Reddick could apologize for making a mistake.
"It was quick or I probably could have saved it," Reddick said after exiting the infield care center. "Just got out of shape in an area - corner entry - where I thought we were pretty secure all weekend. I feel awful for our SupplyHouse Toyota team.
"For us to take ourselves out is one thing, but to take out a fellow Toyota teammate when they are racing for the Chase - pretty much ended their day as well. It is the type of stuff you don't do to yourself, and you don't do to a teammate."
This crash at Iowa Speedway only continued what has been a summer of struggles for Reddick. He spent the first 17 weeks of the season as the points leader, and it appeared that he had an insurmountable lead over the field.
The situation drastically changed after the trips to San Diego and Sonoma Raceway. Reddick finished 25th in the inaugural race at Naval Base Coronado. He then finished 36th at Sonoma Raceway and fell to second in the Cup Series standings.
The start of the summer struggles came at the same time that Denny Hamlin won three consecutive races — Nashville, Michigan, and Pocono.
The four races leading into Iowa Speedway featured a mix of decent runs and more problems. Reddick finished 36th at Chicagoland, eighth at Atlanta, 30th at North Wilkesboro, and 10th at Indianapolis.
He remained second in the standings behind Hamlin, but he fell to third after crashing early at Iowa Speedway. He lost an estimated 40 points to Ryan Blaney, who took over second place.
