The incident occurred in the opening lap of overtime as Smith pushed for a top-10 finish. John Hunter Nemechek washed up into Smith, which sent both cars toward the outside wall. They remained together as the No. 38 climbed the wall. The Ford then went up on its left side as Nemechek's No. 42 spun down and hit Ty Gibbs' No. 54.

The No. 38 Ford slid on its side through Turn 4 before slowing down. This is when the rear of the car came around and the car began to flip. The No. 38 landed on its roof twice before flipping back onto its wheels.

The AMR Safety Crew rushed to the car and undid the window net. Smith climbed from the car under his own power before heading to the infield care center for evaluation. Josh Berry and Nemechek also headed to the infield care center after the incident.

"It was a wild ride, no doubt," Smith said after exiting the infield care center. "Before I knew it, I had a decent restart going and I just get wrecked by the 42 (Nemechek). He just drives through me and then I was sliding on the wall.

"I was just mad at that point from how our day was going and this just pissed me off even more because that's what really hurt was just flipping down the track. It was violent, no doubt, but we had such a fast Speedy Cash Ford today."

Berry, who had an up-close view of the wreck, wall ride, and the flip, provided his perspective after exiting the infield care center.

"It looked like Zane and the 42 had got together obviously and Zane was up on his side," Berry said. "I just tried to go by on the bottom and the 42 spun down and clipped us in the right-rear and we wrecked, so it's just part of being back there.

"It's an overtime restart and everybody has to make up for how bad they ran all day and try to pass everybody in one corner."
