The Trackhouse Racing driver flipped during a sprint car race in Tauranga, New Zealand. A video captured by a spectator showed van Gisbergen circling the track in a pack of sprint cars. As he headed onto a straight, the No. 28 Pacific Toyota machine drifted up the track and hit him.

Van Gisbergen's sprint car flipped several times against the wall before coming to a rest on its side. The caution lights flew as the track crews rushed to the veteran racer's vehicle.

Van Gisbergen posted a video on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, that showed his perspective of the crash.

"Well that was my first ever flip," van Gisbergen wrote. "Unfortunately got collected by someone and took a bit of a ride. Thanks to the safety crew for doing an amazing job.

"The United Truck Parts team are having at rebuilding the car and we should be racing tonight at Baypark again."

The three-time Supercars champion has competed in multiple sprint car races at Baypark Speedway this week. His first day of action featured him finishing fifth and first in his heat races, which put him into third in the feature race's starting lineup.

However, van Gisbergen fell back through the field with what he called a missed setup. He also acknowledged some on-track mistakes he made. He then crashed in a heat race on his second day of action.

Van Gisbergen is not the only NASCAR Cup Series driver to have an on-track incident this weekend. Kyle Larson, who took his High Limit Racing series to Australia, hit the wall at Perth Motorplex.

Larson was in the lead of a sprint car race with 21 laps remaining, but he fell through the field as he headed to the garage area. James McFadden inherited the lead and went on to win for the second consecutive night.
