Ty Gibbs to be listed as owner of Xfinity Series car

The Xfinity Series garage will have a new owner during the 2025 season, one with a familiar last name.

According to Joe Gibbs Racing, Ty Gibbs will be the listed owner of the No. 54 Toyota GR Supra during the 2025 Xfinity Series season. This entry will feature Taylor Gray as the driver as he moves from the Craftsman Truck Series to the next level of NASCAR.

Gibbs piqued interest on Wednesday evening after the announcement that Gray will move on up to the Xfinity Series. He posted a note on his Instagram Stories that read "First year as 54 owner (No. 1 emoji), first year as 54 driver (green check mark emoji). Excited for (Taylor Gray)."

FanBuzz reached out to Joe Gibbs Racing for clarification, and the team confirmed that Gibbs will be listed as the owner of the car.

Gibbs has long been tied to the No. 54. This is the entry that he used to make his debut in the Xfinity Series back in 2021. He took over the Toyota at the Daytona Road Course, and he won his debut. He went on to win at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Watkins Glen International, and Kansas Speedway while sharing the No. 54 with Kyle Busch.

Gibbs moved to the Xfinity entry full-time in 2022. He competed full-time, and he won seven races. This run included back-to-back events at Martinsville Speedway and Phoenix Raceway that helped him lock up the championship.

When Gibbs moved up to the Cup Series, JGR made a change. The team shelved the No. 18 previously used by several drivers and began using the No. 54 for its fourth entry.

The No. 54 Xfinity entry went away when Gibbs moved up to Cup. JGR moved forward with the No. 81 joining the No. 18, No. 19, and No. 20 on the starting grid.

Joe Gibbs remains the team owner of the championship-winning organization he founded. Heather Gibbs, the widow of Coy Gibbs, has taken on a more prominent role as a co-owner after her husband passed away in November 2022.
