Custer, Mayer, and the two Smiths are all still in championship contention. The other playoff drivers who qualified in the top 10 were Justin Allgaier in sixth (29.616 seconds), Jesse Love in eighth (29.635 seconds), and AJ Allmendinger in ninth (29.724 seconds).
The other playoff driver in the lineup is Austin Hill, who qualified the worst of the group while dealing with an ill-handling car. He will line up 17th after posting a 30.058-second lap.
Riley Herbst, the defending winner of the Las Vegas playoff race, qualified seventh with a lap of 29.627 seconds. The Stewart-Haas Racing driver was eliminated from the playoffs last weekend at the Charlotte Roval, but he still has the goal of delivering another win to the organization before its tenure in NASCAR ends.
Sheldon Creed was not able to post a qualifying lap during Friday evening's session. His No. 18 experienced engine issues during qualifying.
Joe Gibbs Racing then confirmed that the team would change the engine before Saturday's race. Creed will have to start from the rear of the field as he continues to seek his first win in an Xfinity car.
Pre-race coverage for Saturday evening's race starts at 7 p.m. ET on CW. Race coverage continues at 7:30 p.m. ET on CW as Rick Allen, Steve Letarte, and Jeff Burton call the playoff race.
