Baran Alp Vardar, a 20-year-old defender for ?stanbulspor, passed away from cancer, the club announced.
The team shared the news earlier this week, calling it a moment of "great pain and deep sorrow."
They described Vardar as a beloved teammate known for his character, energy, and positivity — the kind of presence that sticks with people long after the final whistle.
"His untimely departure has deeply saddened us all," the club said in a translated statement.
Vardar had been undergoing treatment for some time. Despite his young age, he had already built a respectable path in soccer, starting his career in 2015 and going on to play for multiple clubs.
He even made three appearances for ?stanbulspor during the 2023-24 season in Turkey's top league before his illness took hold.

The club later confirmed his funeral was held in Istanbul, with teammates, family, and supporters gathering to say goodbye.
They shared photos from the service with a simple message, a final farewell to one of their own.
And that's really what this comes down to: Not just a player, not just a prospect, a 20-year-old kid, gone far too soon — and clearly, someone who meant a lot to a lot of people.
