"Unlike my mobile phone use, the treatment is going well," Dalglish posted on Instagram. "Ideally, this would have remained private because that's the way it should be, but my useless technology skills have forced my hand.

"I did not mean to make this matter public so I would appreciate it if the privacy of my family and myself are respected.

"As ever, thank you to the wonderful medical staff who have shown incredible care and discretion, not just for me but for many, many others. They are a credit to themselves."

A Scotland native, Dalglish kicked off his senior career with Celtic Football Club in 1969. He scored 111 goals in 204 appearances before exiting in 1977. He then played for Liverpool from 1977-1990, where he added another 118 goals.

He won five league championships and three European Cups. He won two more league championships in 1988 and 1990 while serving as a player-manager. Dalglish also represented Scotland during the World Cup in 1974, 1978, and 1982.

Dalglish retired after the 1990 season and moved fully into a managerial role. He continued to lead Liverpool before quitting midway through the 1991 season. He then moved over to Blackburn, where he remained through the 1995 season. He led Blackburn to a Premier League title in 1995.

The man known as Sir Kenny also led Newcastle United for two seasons, Celtic Football Club briefly in an interim role, and Liverpool FC once again in 2011-2012.

"The support, best wishes and love of everyone at Liverpool FC are, and will continue to be, with Sir Kenny and his family," Liverpool FC said in a statement.
