And it may have peaked when he arrived in New Orleans and asked a question that perfectly captured his ongoing culture shock.
"Can you just drink on the street?" Freddy, known online as @FreddyLA7, asked while walking along Bourbon Street. "Like, you're allowed to carry it?"
For Americans familiar with New Orleans, the answer was obvious.
For Freddy, it was apparently another unforgettable discovery during a World Cup road trip that has turned into a viral sensation.

The German soccer fan first arrived in the United States ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and immediately began documenting his experiences across the South. Since then, his posts have attracted a growing audience of Americans who seem just as entertained by his reactions as he is by the country itself.
Along the way, Freddy has enthusiastically embraced everything from Waffle House and Buc-ee's to Walmart, Buffalo Wild Wings and college football stadiums.
He famously described Taco Bell as "the holy land." His first late-night Waffle House visit earned a perfect score. A stop at Buc-ee's left him wondering how a gas station could possibly be that large.
And Bass Pro Shops blew his mind when he discovered customers could shop for outdoor gear and visit a shooting range in the same building.
Thank you Texas. The hospitality here is something else.❤️ pic.twitter.com/Nr2KKHTIWP

But perhaps what has resonated most with Americans is Freddy's appreciation for the people he has met.
Throughout the trip, he has shared stories of strangers offering rides, welcoming him to local communities and helping him experience parts of the country many international visitors never see.

His road trip has already included stops in Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Louisiana and Texas, along with visits to professional sports facilities, college campuses, a baseball game and even a meeting with Houston Texans legend J.J. Watt.
Somewhere between the Waffle House breakfasts, country music discoveries and Bourbon Street revelations, Freddy has become one of the unexpected stars of the World Cup.
And judging by the internet's reaction, Americans are enjoying the trip almost as much as he is.
