Well, it all comes down to this. After an unreal regular season, thrilling conference tournaments, and a memorable NCAA Tournament there is one game left to crown a Champion. The boys from Purdue look to take down the defending champions in what should prove to be an all-time game. Let's get into it.
Well I think it is safe to say that Purdue has redeemed themselves after embarrassment last year. A dominant run through the tournament culminates in Edey and company getting a chance to hang a banner. Scoring 82.9 points a game Purdue is a top 15 scoring offense, and top five in offensive rating. They also are respectable on defense, top 75 in rating on that side of the ball. This team has only lost 4 games all season, and so much of that is because of their star Zach Edey. Sure he can be tough to watch and I'm not a huge fan of the way he plays the game, but you cannot deny his efficacy. Edey averages a hair under 25, and three other players are in double figures on average. Will that be enough to take down UConn, the defending Champs?
If you ask me, and Vegas for that matter, I would say probably not. While Purdue's ratings are impressive, UConn is the number one rated offense and a top 15 rated defense which is absolutely insane. It shows too as they have 36 wins on the season and just 3 losses. Five UConn players average 11 or more, led by guard Tristen Newton and his 14.9 points per game. While offense is important and I think these two teams are comparable on that side of the ball, everyone knows defense wins championships and UConn absolutely has the advantage there.
A lot depends on how this game is called as Edey loves to get to the line, but if I had to guess I think UConn should have a solid game plan on how to neutralize him and come out with the win.
Always bet responsibly!
