Bloodsport is getting a new life. And this time, it's Michaela Coel behind it, as reported by Deadline.

The Emmy-winning creator is teaming up with A24 again to write and direct a reimagining of the classic 1988 martial arts film that helped turn Jean-Claude Van Damme into a global star.
That alone makes this interesting. But Coel's vision could take it somewhere completely different.
"I've long been in awe of fighters," she said, via Deadline. "The discipline, the intensity, the isolation. I'm excited to explore this world."
Translation? This probably won't be your typical fight movie.
The original Bloodsport followed an American soldier competing in an underground Hong Kong tournament known as the Kumite. It was gritty, raw, and became a cult favorite that spawned multiple sequels.
Now it's getting a modern reset.
Producer Marc Toberoff said the goal is to bring back that high-energy tournament feel while introducing it to a new audience. A24 will finance and distribute the film, which already adds a certain tone and style to the project.
Coel is no stranger to working with A24. This marks her third collaboration with the studio, and she's currently juggling multiple projects, including upcoming films and a new series she's writing, directing, and starring in.
That track record matters. Because when Coel gets full creative control, things tend to stand out.
So while Bloodsport might sound familiar, this version could look nothing like the one fans remember.
And that's exactly the point.
