Beginning June 1, four films from the iconic martial arts series became available on Netflix in the United States, giving viewers a chance to revisit some of the movies that inspired the hit streaming series.
The additions include the original The Karate Kid trilogy starring Ralph Macchio, as well as the 2010 remake featuring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan.
One notable omission is The Next Karate Kid, the fourth installment in the franchise.
The original 1984 film remains the standard-bearer of the series, helping launch a franchise that has spanned more than four decades. While the sequels generated mixed reactions from critics and fans, the movies maintained a loyal following and helped establish The Karate Kid as one of Hollywood's most recognizable sports and martial arts properties.
The 2010 remake introduced the story to a new generation and proved to be a major commercial success, grossing more than $350 million worldwide against a reported budget of about $40 million.
Interest in the franchise received another boost through Cobra Kai, which ran from 2018 through 2025 and brought together new characters and familiar faces from the original films.
Netflix also recently added Karate Kid: Legends, giving fans access to both classic and newer entries in the long-running franchise.
For longtime fans and newcomers alike, it's now easier than ever to catch up on the story that started with Daniel LaRusso, Mr. Miyagi and one unforgettable crane kick.
