That alone tells you everything.

What started as a fascinating experiment has turned into one of the most popular and feel-good sports stories on television.

The series, backed by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, follows the real-life journey of Wrexham AFC as the club continues its climb through English football.

And that climb has been real.

Season five is set to premiere May 14 on FXX and Hulu, picking up with Wrexham chasing something that's never been done before. Three straight promotions have already shocked the football world. Now, they're pushing for the Premier League.

It's the kind of storyline you couldn't script.

"When we launched the show, we never imagined the impact it would have," FX president Nick Grad said, pointing to the connection the series has built with fans around the world.

Reynolds and McElhenney echoed that sentiment, calling the renewal "nearly unheard of" and crediting both the team on the field and the crew behind the scenes.

And that's really what this has become. More than a show. More than a team. It's a story people keep coming back to.
