One of baseball's greatest legends is headed back to the big screen.

According to Deadline, a new biopic about Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig is in the works at Universal, with Glen Powell set to portray the legendary New York Yankees first baseman.
The film will also reunite Powell with acclaimed director Richard Linklater, who previously worked with the actor on Everybody Wants Some!! and Hit Man. He's also known for School of Rock, the Before trilogy and the 2005 remake of the iconic baseball flick Bad News Bears.
Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels is attached as a producer.

Gehrig remains one of the most iconic figures in baseball history.
Nicknamed "The Iron Horse," he played his entire 17-year career with the Yankees, won six World Series championships and appeared in seven All-Star Games. His streak of 2,130 consecutive games played stood as one of sports' most famous records until Cal Ripken Jr. broke it in 1998.
Gehrig's career came to a heartbreaking end in 1939 after he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, the disease that would eventually become widely known as "Lou Gehrig's disease." He died two years later at just 37 years old.
His emotional farewell at Yankee Stadium, highlighted by the unforgettable line calling himself "the luckiest man on the face of the earth," remains one of the most memorable moments in sports history.
Exactly how much of Gehrig's life the new film will cover has not yet been revealed, though Deadline reported that teammate Babe Dahlgren — who replaced Gehrig at first base after his diagnosis — is expected to play a significant role.
The only previous major Hollywood film centered on Gehrig was the acclaimed 1942 classic The Pride of the Yankees, starring Gary Cooper.
With Powell's star continuing to rise and Linklater once again behind the camera, this latest take on Gehrig's remarkable life is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated sports films in development.
