A League of Their Own, the classic 1992 sports comedy-drama, recently landed on the streaming service, giving fans another chance to revisit one of baseball's most memorable movies.
While Hanks delivers one of his most iconic performances as hard-drinking manager Jimmy Dugan, the film also features an all-star cast that includes Geena Davis, Madonna, Lori Petty, Rosie O'Donnell and Jon Lovitz.
Directed by Penny Marshall, A League of Their Own tells a fictionalized story inspired by the real-life All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, which was formed during World War II while many Major League Baseball players were serving overseas.
The story follows sisters Dottie Hinson (Davis) and Kit Keller (Petty) as they join the Rockford Peaches, one of the league's original teams. Along the way, they help prove women's baseball deserves a spotlight while navigating family, friendship and fierce competition.
Of course, the movie is perhaps best remembered for Hanks' unforgettable delivery of one of the most famous lines in sports movie history.
"There's no crying in baseball!"
Released in 1992, A League of Their Own became both a critical and commercial success, earning more than $132 million at the worldwide box office. Two decades later, the Library of Congress selected the film for preservation in the National Film Registry because of its cultural and historical significance.
More than 30 years after its release, A League of Their Own remains one of the most celebrated sports movies ever made. Now that it's streaming on Netflix, longtime fans have the perfect excuse to revisit it, while a new generation can discover why it's still considered a home run.
