In posts shared on Instagram and Facebook, Shockey detailed his diagnosis and the medical evaluations that followed.

According to Shockey, doctors initially feared the cancer was at least Stage 3 after a colonoscopy in April. However, follow-up scans determined the cancer had not spread to other organs, resulting in an advanced Stage 2 diagnosis.

He said his treatment plan will include several months of radiation, chemotherapy and surgery.

He also expressed gratitude for the support he has received from family and friends since learning of the diagnosis.

Members of the Shockey family, including his sister, Eva, and father, Jim, also shared messages on social media asking for prayers and support as he begins treatment. Jim's wife died of cancer a few years ago.

Colorectal cancer affects the colon or rectum and is one of the most commonly diagnosed forms of cancer worldwide. Treatment options vary depending on the stage of the disease and other factors determined by a patient's medical team.

Shockey said he plans to continue updating supporters on his condition and treatment journey through social media.
