The longtime ESPN personality told CBS News correspondent Robert Costa that he is seriously thinking about making a run for president in 2028 and potentially seeking the Democratic nomination.

"I will confess to you, I'm giving strong consideration to being on that debate stage for 2027," Smith said, adding that he plans to use 2026 to study the issues and decide whether a campaign makes sense.

Yes, that Stephen A. Smith.

The same guy who built a media empire off booming monologues, fearless hot takes and a refusal to back down from anyone now says he is considering taking that energy to the national political arena.

If nothing else, you can already imagine what those primary debates would look like.

Smith is no stranger to weighing in on political topics, and he has grown into one of the most recognizable voices in sports media. That reach clearly has people thinking bigger. Even former President Donald Trump voiced support for the idea last year, praising Smith's entertainment skills and saying he would "love to see him run."

For now, this is still in the consideration phase. No campaign, no official announcement.

But if Smith does decide to make the leap, don't expect a quiet rollout.
