As relayed by Men's Journal, the streaming giant recently added the 1993 family sports comedy "Rookie of the Year" to its library.
The film has remained a favorite among baseball fans for more than three decades, despite receiving mixed reviews when it was first released.
Directed by Daniel Stern, "Rookie of the Year" tells the story of Henry Rowengartner, a young baseball fan whose life changes after an accident gives him the ability to throw a ball at extraordinary speeds. Before long, the unlikely youngster finds himself pitching for the Chicago Cubs.
Thomas Ian Nicholas starred as Henry, while Gary Busey delivered one of the movie's most memorable performances as veteran pitcher Chet "Rocket" Steadman. Stern also appeared in the film as eccentric pitching coach Phil Brickma.
As Men's Journal noted, the movie earned more than $56 million at the box office and has maintained a loyal following long after its theatrical release. While critics were divided, many fans continue to view it as one of the most entertaining baseball movies of its era.
The film also featured appearances from several baseball stars of the time, including Barry Bonds, Bobby Bonilla and Pedro Guerrero, along with a cameo by the late John Candy.
According to the report, "Rookie of the Year" is now available to stream on Netflix, giving longtime fans an opportunity to revisit a childhood favorite and introducing a new generation to one of the most memorable baseball movies of the 1990s.
