According to a report from the California Post, William Hasley, a screenwriter, author and former husband of actress Robin Riker, was the man discovered by emergency responders Saturday evening.
The Post reported that Hasley, 78, helped write Jenner's 1996 book, "Finding the Champion Within." According to Hasley's biography, the two became friends while working on an Olympics-related project before Jenner enlisted him to help with the book.
Per the Post, Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded to an area near Runyon Canyon at approximately 7:05 p.m. Saturday. Rescue crews attempted lifesaving measures after reaching Hasley, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A cause of death has not yet been announced.
The Post noted that temperatures in the area were relatively mild at the time, with conditions reportedly in the 60s. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office has not released an official determination regarding how Hasley died.
Beyond his work with Jenner, Hasley built a lengthy career in Hollywood. According to the Post, his television credits included "Murder, She Wrote," "Highway to Heaven," "Young Riders," "Ghost Stories" and "Swift Justice." He also wrote screenplays for several major studios, including Universal Pictures, Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox.
Hasley was also known for teaching screenwriting at UCLA, where he worked with aspiring writers and filmmakers.
Riker, his former wife, became well known for her role as Kelly Hall on the Showtime sitcom "Brothers" and later appeared on numerous television programs, including "The Bold and the Beautiful."
The Post report cited a neighbor who said they had seen Hasley carrying groceries earlier on the day he died.
Further details are expected once the medical examiner completes its investigation.
