Southern California poker player Jared Griener says he was ambushed inside his Las Vegas Airbnb after cashing out his winnings from the World Series of Poker, with masked robbers allegedly tying him up and stealing his entire bankroll.
According to Griener, he returned to the rental Sunday evening after collecting his payouts and preparing to head home to Los Angeles.
That's when everything changed.
In a series of posts on X, Griener said two masked men were waiting inside the Airbnb when he walked through the front door.
"They immediately tackled me to the ground and tied me up and took my backpack with my entire roll in it," he wrote.
Griener said the backpack contained "literally all" of his money. He also claimed the suspects threatened to kill him if he moved before leaving him bound inside the home.
After about 15 minutes, Griener said he was finally able to free himself and ran to a neighboring house, where he called 911.
Just want to say thanks to my friends and colleagues who have reached out here and privately to show support to me, it means a lot.
Apart from the loss of my $, I am so traumatized and hurt rn. But what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. I’ll be back, you can fkn count on it! https://t.co/oGx7XtqYm7

Fortunately, he said he wasn't physically injured.
The longtime poker pro believes the robbery may have been more than random bad luck.
According to Griener, the suspects appeared to know the Airbnb's entry code and were captured on neighboring surveillance cameras arriving at the property roughly 10 minutes before he got home.
"These people knew the door code to my Airbnb," Griener wrote, raising the possibility that someone with inside knowledge may have helped plan the robbery.
Griener has earned more than $3.3 million in live tournament winnings during his poker career.
Authorities have not publicly announced any arrests as the investigation into the robbery continues.
