According to a BBC report, surgeons spent close to four hours repairing damaged tendons and nerves in her left hand, which will keep her from the tennis court for at least three months.
On Tuesday, Kvitova posted a message on Twitter, saying the incident has left her "shaken" but happy to be alive.
Kvitova's publicist, Karel Tejkal, said while her injury is severe, she should make a full recovery.
"The injury is serious, but the surgeon says Petra is young and healthy and there is no reason why she can't resume tennis," Tejkal said, adding that the crime was random.
The 26-year-old, who's currently ranked No.11 in the world and has won 19 titles in her career, will reportedly wear a cast for six to eight weeks, effectively ruling her out of the Australian Open in January.
