Two weeks after police say he was involved in an alteration with a woman, a former Florida Gators football player and possible first-day pick in the NFL draft has been charged with misdemeanor battery after he allegedly hit a woman in the face.

Caleb Brantley has been charged in Alachua County Court with battery, which is a first-degree misdemeanor. The charge was listed Friday on the courts public database.

A 10 News report, citing police, said Brantley was involved in a fight with a woman in the 1700 Block of W University Ave, outside the Copper Monkey at around 2 a.m. The altercation spilled over into the roadway. But, the female victim didn't come forward at the time so there was no legal action taken at the time.
Now, in a sworn complaint filed with the court, the female victim claims the 6-foot-2, 307 pound Brantley made crude comments to a 5-foot-6, 120 pound woman. The woman pushed Brantley, who responded by hitting her in the face and knocking her unconscious, the complaint said. The alleged victim lost a tooth and will need root canal, the complaint said.
Brantley is the No. 4-rate defensive tackle in the draft and could have gone as high as the first round.
There's no word yet on when he'll appear in court.
