Duke had a pretty big scare in its recruiting class this year before landing the No. 1 point guard in Trevon Duval and a four-star wing man in Jordan Tucker. The Blue Devils missed out on five-star wing and the No. 2 small forward in the class in Kevin Knox, but have still ended up with the No. 2 recruiting class for this year.

Duke has learned its lesson and anticipates a serious loss at the point guard position after next season. Duval is thought to be a "one-and-done" prospect while Grayson Allen will be gone regardless of how well he plays because of graduation and Frank Jackson unexpectedly left after this past season. That leaves walk-ons to play point guard in 2018 and Coach K will definitely not be having that.
According to 247Sports, Duke is making five-star Darius Garland a top priority. The top rated point guard in the class —- by 247Sports —- has been hearing from one of two Duke coaches just about every day.
"They've been talking to me a lot. [Coach K] and Coach Scheyer talk to me almost every day," Garland said. "It's an honor to have an offer from them, communicating with one of the best coaches ever. It's really fun."
Garland has also said that he would be open to playing with another top notch guard and that could be great for Duke as well since they are currently recruiting a legacy guard in Tre Jones, brother of 2015 national champ Tyus. Having both guards on the roster leaves open the possibility that one of them returns and they end up with at least one great point guard for more than a year and they don't have to go chasing one every year.
The 6'1", 170-pound guard is playing on the Nike EYBL circuit this season and is averaging 17 points along with 4.9 assists while shooting 54 percent from the floor.
