Often a relatively mediocre regular-season team, Coughlin's Giants have turned it on in the playoffs, winning Super Bowls in 2007 and 2011.
Coughlin reportedly will seek another head coaching gig elsewhere despite continuing to coach at age 69. He had one year remaining on his contract before being released from his duties.
The Giants job is a prime one given the stability of team ownership, it's metro-New York location, and skill position players (Eli Manning, Odell Beckham) that still have good years left. There's already been speculation that the Giants could go after Sean Peyton or Nick Saban. Saban has repeatedly said he has no plans to leave Alabama.
