Another college head coach has reportedly gotten the mid-season axe

Fresno is 1-7 on the season.

According to ESPN and amid multiple reports of a press conference, it looks like Fresno State has fired head coach Tim DeRuyter.

This was DeRuyter's fifth season at Fresno, and his tenure there had started off with a bang. After a 20-6 record there in his first two seasons, Fresno's record slowly declined with DeRuyter at the helm. That came to a head this week, as Fresno lost their seventh game of the season amid a 1-7 start.

Who could replace DeRuyter may be more important than his firing. The growing speculation among the college football community is that Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin could be the favorite for the job.

Kiffin played as a quarterback at Fresno, and we was an assistant there for two years. If Fresno can really bring him back as a head coach, it would be a huge lift for the program.
