The Claeys firing comes after some controversy; multiple Minnesota players were suspended ahead of the Holiday Bowl, and the players threatened to boycott if those players weren't re-instated. Claeys publicly supported that boycott, which many believed put his job in danger.
With Claeys out, the popular rumor is that Western Michigan head coach P.J. Fleck could be on his way to Minneapolis. After a 13-0 regular season, Fleck managed to stay put in Kalamazoo despite a rapid coaching carousel. If Fleck is looking to move on after a loss in the Cotton Bowl, Minnesota could be a potential destination.
