College RB reportedly shot to death in Las Vegas on Saturday

According to NBC 3 news in Las Vegas, Missouri State running back Richard Nelson was shot to death on Saturday night after he had attempted to break up a fight. Nelson was only 18.

Per the NBC 3 report, Nelson went to help a family member involved in a fight around 7:30 Saturday evening when the shooting occurred. The report identifies that a male fired several shots before he and several others got away prior to police arriving.

Nelson was wounded multiple times and later pronounced dead at a local medical center. Police are still investigating to identify the shooter.

According to Missouri State, Nelson — a Las Vegas native — had redshirted his first year with the school. Nelson had played both linebacker and running back in high school before signing on with Missouri State last year.
