Conor McGregor makes UFC history in TKO victory over Eddie Alvarez

Absolute mastery.

Conor McGregor (20-3) became the first competitor in UFC history to hold two belts in two different weight classes by earning a TKO victory over Eddie Alvarez (28-4) in his first UFC lightweight title defense Saturday night at UFC 205 from Madison Square Garden.

McGregor toyed with Alvarez over the first two minutes of the fight before cracking him with a nasty left and putting him on the mat. Alvarez popped back up and continued to trade blows, but the featherweight champion's length was clearly a problem for Alvarez. Alvarez would get knocked down twice more in the round as McGregor utterly dominated the first.

The second was much of the same, as McGregor teed off on Alvarez over and again before knocking the champ out.

McGregor, the featherweight champion, jumped to his third weight class in less than a year after beating Nate Diaz at 170 pounds in August.

Alvarez won the lightweight belt after knocking out Rafael dos Anjos less than four minutes into the first round in July.

Alvarez's only other TKO loss came in 2007.
