Former five-star wide receiver recruit Tyron Johnson announced on Thursday afternoon that he would be transferring from LSU after just one season in Baton Rogue. Johnson tweeted from his Twitter account announcing the news, adding that he has been granted his release from LSU.

Shortly after the news broke, The Advocate's Ross Dellenger reported that Johnson's transferring is due to the type of offense that the Tigers run. Dellenger, speaking to Johnson's father, Tyrone, has reported that LSU has blocked Johnson from transferring to other SEC schools. Tyron was the No. 1 ranked wide receiver recruit in the class of 2015.
"He wanted to go to a more wide open offense," Tyrone Johnson told The Advocate on Thursday afternoon. "That was the only reason why."
The Tigers' offense is led by Heisman candidate running back Leonard Fournette, and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron's system thrives under a pro-style quarterback. However, since the majority of quarterbacks on LSU's roster are dual-threat guys, the passing game is a bit more limited to what Johnson is looking for. Cameron took a pay cut for the 2016 season — LSU's passing game finished last year ranked 105th in the nation.
While Johnson is blocked from transferring to an SEC school immediately, he could go the JUCO route and transfer after a season there.
