Florida freshman impressing staff and teammates after rough start

He could be the Gators' running back of the future.

Florida freshman running back Lamical Perine did not step foot on campus as one of the more hyped recruits coming out of high school, but he has made himself into one of the top backs in the group. Perine was only a three-star recruit out of Alabama, but he's been a five-star worker and that's earned him the respect of his teammates and coaches.

Quarterback Luke Del Rio was particularly high on Perine and had a ton of praise for him. "He worked really hard in practice, had a really good week of practice, gained the confidence of us and the coaches to allow him to get back in there and compete, and he played incredible on Saturday," Gators' quarterback Luke Del Rio told 247Sports' Thomas Goldkamp.

Perine's very first carry wasn't so great as it was a fumble against UMass, but made up for it with his effort against Kentucky in a 45-7 win. He carried the ball 17 times for 106 yards and also caught a 28-yard touchdown pass.

Linebacker Daniel McMillian made it pretty clear when telling Goldkamp what he likes about Perine; "(He's) very physical, low to the ground and will bring that boom to you."

If he continues to play like he did against Kentucky, Perine could find himself as the feature back in this group and that could make Florida very dangerous in the SEC.
