This team definitely needs a quarterback.

Former Baylor quarterback Jarrett Stidham announced his intention to transfer in the wake of Baylor's sexual assault scandal. The former five-star recruit impressed last season when he took over for the injured Seth Russell, all before Stidham suffered a season-ending injury of his own.

Stidham will have to sit out a year before he is eligible to play again at the FBS level, but it looks like he could be closer to making a decision; according to AL.com, Stidham was spotted chatting with head coach Gus Malzahn at Auburn's practice on Wednesday.

Auburn does have quite the quarterback conundrum this season, as last year's opening day starter Jeremy Johnson did not come close to living up to the lofty expectations bequeathed upon him. Johnson is now competing with backup Sean White and Florida State transfer John Franklin III for the starting job.

Could Stidham be Auburn's savior at the quarterback spot starting in 2017? Stidham hasn't publicly hinted where he might go, but this is clearly a sign that he is interested in the Tigers. He would also immediately become the best quarterback on the roster, so that interest is obviously mutual.

In 10 games last season — three starts — Stidham threw for 1,265 yards and 12 touchdowns against two interceptions. He also scored two times on the ground. He is restricted from transferring to any other Big 12 school.

Russell is expected to take back over as Baylor's starting quarterback in 2016, having fully recovered from the neck injury that ended his season last year.
