Former four-star QB Caleb Henderson to transfer from UNC

Henderson played sparingly last season.

North Carolina quarterback and former four-star recruit Caleb Henderson will be transferring from the program. The sophomore announce the decision via a statement from his family on Saturday.

"Our son, Caleb, left the University of North Carolina last evening. He is very grateful for the 2 years he spent there as a student athlete. He would like to especially thank his coaches and teammates for making his experience so rich with learning, as well as life time friendships. Caleb made the decision to leave in order to be geographically closer to his family, especially his mother who has some health concerns."

Henderson is from Alexandria, Va., so he will probably be transferring to a school in that area.

The decision also comes after Henderson lost out on the backup quarterback spot in fall camp. Mitch Trubisky was already settled in as the starter, and on Saturday, Nathan Elliott was officially named the backup. According to Scout, the race had not been too close despite head coach Larry Fedora not naming a backup until Saturday.

Henderson only threw for one attempt as a freshman last year.
