Former Patriots wideout is lending a hand to help Tom Brady get ready for his return

Tom Brady is getting ready for his return after a suspension by practicing with a former teammate.

Former Patriots receiver Wes Welker wanted to have dinner with former teammate Tom Brady, but the quarterback had another idea. Welker told WQAM in Miami that he called Brady and asked if he wanted to go out to dinner, but the wideout instead ended making a workout opponent.

"I hit him up to do dinner, like (this) Saturday night," Welker said referring to his conversation with Brady. "He was like 'I'm going to be flying in from Ann Arbor [Michigan] later, but how about that morning we go throw?'"

Brady will be in Ann Arbor on Saturday to be honored by alma mater Michigan and is currently in the midst of a four-game suspension.

But he's showing his dedication to be ready to play after the suspension by making a workout appointment with the former receiver. Welker's currently a free agent and played with Brady in New England from 2007-2012 and led the league in receptions three seasons during that time.

Unfortunately for Welker, his relaxation plans with his former quarterback are gone.

"It's just funny," Welker said. "I'm sitting there trying to have dinner. 'Hey, get your ass up here and let's go throw.' I'm like, 'Aw jeez, man.' He's going to have me running like 2-minute drill in his backyard or something."

Brady's first game back for the Patriots will be against the Browns on Oct. 9.
