He abruptly announced his transfer in October despite being on track to become the school's all-time rushing leader. There was a time when he was thought to be going to the NFL Draft and that he would even switch to becoming a tight end. However, he ended up deciding on transferring to give himself a year at the position, but he will have to sit out a year as well per NCAA transfer rules.
In three seasons with the Volunteers, Hurd rushed for 2,638 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns. He also caught 67 passes for 492 yards and six scores.
