Four-star WR Nico Collins jilted local powers while committing to this blue blood program

Nico Collins made his commitment on National Signing Day and he isn't staying close to home.

The Michigan Wolverines would have been just fine if none of the prospects considering the program would have pledged a commitment on National Signing Day. However, Jim Harbaugh and company picked up a massive commitment from five-star defensive tackle Aubrey Solomon early in the day and, by the afternoon, the Wolverines added a crucial piece for the future in the form of four-star wide receiver Nico Collins.

Collins rates as one of the top 150 prospects in the country according to the 247Sports composite and he is a consensus four-star recruit at the position. In securing Collins' commitment, Michigan prevailed over both Alabama and Georgia for a player that hails from Clay-Chalkville High School (Ala.) and that regional victory could be significant moving forward.

While Michigan was seen as the favorite for Collins by the end of the process, much was made about both the Bulldogs and Crimson Tide posing credible threats. He is the biggest wide receiver in Michigan's 2017 class at 6-foot-5 and 195 pounds, and while Collins is not as highly rated as Donovan Peoples-Jones, the Wolverines needed an influx of talent at the position and they were able to secure it.

Jim Harbaugh beating Nick Saban and Kirby Smart on a prime recruit from the south is always newsworthy and that is definitely the case here.
