Les Miles has been reportedly in the mix for a few college football openings during the off-season, including Houston, Purdue and Minnesota. However, the former LSU and Oklahoma State head coach has been unable to land his next gig on the sideline, and that has led to wide speculation that he could end up in the TV booth at ESPN. For now, though, it doesn't appear that Miles wants to make that move and he sees himself coaching (via SEC Country).
"I'm a coach. I have so much experience with the things that I've done that it's hard for me to put that behind me. In other words, I don't know how to [be in the media]. But I can [coach]."
The jobs that Miles has been theoretically up for have gone in younger, potentially more dynamic directions and that makes sense to some degree. In fact, Miles even understands it, even if he seems to wish otherwise.
"Here's the interesting thing: The experience that you've had in 17 years of head coaching experience, you can't put it into an interview. It's impossible to try. So what you do is you do the best you can to display these great number of experiences that you've had... If they don't want an experienced coach and a guy that's been through a number of situations, I understand it. I really do."
At the age of 63, Miles certainly is not beyond the age in which he should be considered for jobs and, frankly, it seems unlikely that he wouldn't be able to land one in the near future. With that said, ESPN probably won't stop coming after him and, at a certain point, he may have to open his mind to that possibility.
