More details emerge on backstage fight between Brock Lesnar and Chris Jericho

The two superstars reportedly had to be separated backstage.

This is definitely not the big story we expected coming out of WWE's SummerSlam.

This year's SummerSlam ended in a controversial finish, as the main event between Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton had to be stopped due to excessive blood from a large gash on Orton's head. The stoppage shocked people, who weren't quite sure whether it was "real" or planned.

One of those people was fellow wrestler and former WWE champ Chris Jericho, who wanted to check on Orton after the match. The situation got heated, as the management backstage wouldn't tell Jericho that the finish was planned, prompting a "this is bullshit!" exclamation from the veteran right as Lesnar walked through.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer (subscription only) was able to shine some more light on the situation, noting just how the two got into a physical altercation.

Jericho went to the Gorilla position, he was actually more worried about Randy Orton, if Orton was doing okay. He asked Michael Hayes like "What was the finish?" And Michael Hayes wouldn't tell him. The deal with Lesnar is that his stuff is kept really quiet. I don't know how many people knew the finish, but it was very, very few.

Meltzer went on to discuss the actual altercation, where Lesnar was reportedly at fault, and the two had to be separated on two occasions: once by executive Paul "Triple H" Levesque, and eventually by CEO and Chairman Vince McMahon.

Lesnar's like "mind your own business", and it escalated and they were yelling at each other, and it got physical. They shoved each other, and Lesnar taunted him and called him names, a bunch of names that could probably get him in trouble if they came out... called him a pussy. They were kind of tangled up, and Triple H broke it up real quick. And then they got into it again, and Vince broke it up and Vince yelled at Jericho and just said "It was a work! It was a work!" And Triple H told Vince, "Well, Lesnar's the one who started it."

Meltzer also reported that — besides the giant cut that required 10 staples — Orton is "okay" and likely didn't suffer a concussion.

The detail that Lesnar was reportedly at fault is interesting, as is the fact that WWE's own executives wouldn't let in on the finish to the match until after Jericho and Lesnar started fight. It seems like this all could have been prevented if they had just told Jericho that ref stoppage was part of the show.

Lesnar likely won't suffer any repercussions for the fight; we have already seen that normal WWE rules don't apply to him. As for Jericho, he was on television for RAW on Monday, and considering the amount of time he got on camera, he likely isn't being punished either.

What is also intriguing is that they planned finish called for Lesnar to cut Orton open with an elbow. While "hardway" blood has been done plenty of times in the past, pro wrestling has been known for the act of "blading", where the performers discreetly cut themselves to produce blood for the match.

WWE has pretty much banned blading due to its own controversy, but this situation begs the question: is it really that bad if the performers are okay with it? Is that really worse than a trained MMA fighter trying to open up a wound the old fashioned way?

They fallout so far from this doesn't appear to be much, but we will have to wait and see how this event affects the promotion over the coming months.
