Former UCLA, Oklahoma OC finally gets a shot as FBS head coach

This has been a long time coming.

After being an assistant for almost 30 years, it looks like this coach is finally getting his due.

According to FootballScoop.com, Nevada has hired former Oklahoma offensive coordinator Jay Norvell to be their next head coach.

Norvell will be replacing Brian Polian, with whom Nevada parted ways after a 23-27 record in four seasons in Reno.

Though he was a linebacker for Iowa in his playing days, Norvell began his coaching work as a wide receivers coach in both college and the NFL. The 53-year old Norvell has worked as the offensive coordinator for UCLA, Nebraska, and Oklahoma in the past, and he was the "passing game" coordinator and wide receivers coach for Arizona State this season.
