There are a handful of college football programs that absolutely, unequivocally do not need to change their uniforms and/or helmets. Teams like Michigan, Notre Dame, Alabama and others are certainly on that list and, without going terribly in-depth, the Ohio State Buckeyes would definitely make the cut without a second thought.

This week, though, Urban Meyer and company are rolling out new throwback helmets for the game against Nebraska and, well, they are pretty terrible.
At first glance, these uniforms are both out of place and exceedingly jarring but it is at least possible that the impact is lessened by the presence of a full throwback outfit.
As you might expect, Ohio State is preparing to profit from this endeavor, putting the new-look jerseys on sale this week, but the crowning achievement is that the helmet is brutal on all counts. It is both bland and generally out of place with the Ohio State "brand", and even if it does not matter when it comes to the product on the field, it just feels wrong to have the iconic look of the Buckeyes changed in this way.
The match-up between two strong, one-loss teams in Ohio State and Nebraska will still be exciting for college football fans, but the purists might just have a fit when they flip on the television on Saturday.
