Patriots make stunning in-conference trade to steal away starter

Another great move for the Patriots.

So much for bringing back Martellus Bennett.

The New England Patriots just got a major lift without having to pay an exorbitant amount of money to keep their two-tight end sets churning along:

After the Indianapolis Colts re-inked Jack Doyle, Dwayne Allen became expendable and he found a new home pretty quickly.

Bennett was expected to be seeking more than $9 million annually as a free agent.

Allen will make just $5 million total this season, $5 million next season and just over $7 million in the final year of his contract.

Allen is a 6'3", 255-pound tight end, who has found sporadic success in Indy. He'll immediately become a target for quarterback Tom Brady.

Over his five-year career, Allen has more than 1,400 yards receiving and 19 touchdowns.
