Details have since emerged on Salaam's death, and those details are starting to paint another sad picture of a football player gone all too soon. According to USA Today, police believed there was no foul play in the incident and are currently investigating a suicide.

His mother, Khalada, told USA TODAY Sports Tuesday that police said they suspect it's a suicide after finding a note.

"They said they found a note and would share that with us when we get there," Salaam's mother said.

Salaam's body was found on Monday night in a park not far from where he played football in Boulder. Police were then called and the matter is still under investigation.

Salaam was the youngest Heisman Trophy winner when he won the award in the 1994 season. He rushed for 2,055 yards and 24 touchdowns that year, leading the Buffs to an 11-1 record. Salaam was then taken in the first round of the 1995 NFL Draft by Chicago, where he rushed for over 1,000 yards in his rookie season. He would then be out of the NFL just a few years later.
