Report: Kings interested in trading for star point guard

This would get one team on the right track to its best potential future.

The Sacramento Kings haven't been the same since 2002 when they were robbed of a Finals appearance by a rigged Western Conference Finals —- thanks Tim Donaghy. They haven't been to the playoffs since 2006 and haven't even come close since then. They haven't finished better than 10th in the Western Conference since then.

They've had some promise with DeMarcus Cousins playing at power forward and some recent draft picks playing up to expectations. However, there's always been something that derails the season like coaching feuds, not keeping certain players happy and building awkward rosters around Boogie.

It seems that the Kings are going to try and find a good point guard who can co-exist with Cousins though. The Kings are looking to make and it's one that would actually make sense. Darren Wolfson of ESPN 1500 in Minnesota says that the Kings have serious interest in Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio.

This would free up Minnesota to let their newest point guard Kris Dunn take over the reigns of the offense. He's supposed to be a better defender than the 25-year old Rubio and is probably a little behind in shooting percentages.

Dunn can run an offense and he's one of the more NBA-ready players from this year's draft. The trade would give the Kings a true starting point guard ahead of Darren Collison and Garrett Temple. It would also allow the Timberwolves to get started on that "future" they've been so looking forward to the past few years.

With a core of Andrew Wiggins, Zach LaVine, Karl Towns and Kris Dunn, the Timberwolves are finally expected to make the playoffs and get these young guys some crucial postseason experience.
