Report: One of ESPN's longest-tenured college football analysts has been laid off

Wow.

ESPN's mass layoffs have sent shock waves through the sports media industry and some of the biggest names at the network have been let go over the past 36 hours. Among those defections, the college football department at the network was hit in a big way, with Brett McMurphy, Danny Kanell, Derek Tyson, Brian Barnett and many others losing their jobs as a part of the cuts.

24 hours after most of the names became public, though, another name was reportedly added to the list and it comes in the form of Mark May. Awful Announcing brings word that May has been let go and this is a bit of a stunner given that he was employed as a college football analyst with the network since 2001.

It would be fair to indicate that May did not have a universal approval rating and he has taken a step back in visibility in recent years since his partnership with Lou Holtz and Rece Davis on College Football Final came to an end. Still, he was certainly qualified as College Football Hall of Fame inductee and May is one of the more well-known analysts that was working for the network.

The next step will be interesting for ESPN but the names keep pouring in at this juncture.
