Jerry Jones may have squashed the idea of a quarterback controversy recently when he said the Cowboys plan to ride the hot hand of rookie Dak Prescott, regardless of Tony Romo's health. But now that Romo appears healthy enough to return to the lineup, that idea will be put to the test.

ESPN NFL analyst Ed Werder reports that Romo's recovery from a back fracture he suffered in a preseason game against Seattle in August is virtually complete.
Ian Rappaport of NFL.com also confirmed that, barring anything unforeseen, Romo's rehabilitation is pretty much complete, but reiterated Jones's position that Prescott will remain the starter.

But Jones also shared a somewhat human moment with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram about the possibility of Romo not getting to experience a Super Bowl by the end of his playing career.
"I think Tony Romo is one of the best quarterbacks that have played this game. My real regret would be to have had him here and not won a Super Bowl with him. He's that talented."
All that said, head coach Jason Garret has been non-committal on whether Romo will even be active Sunday against the Steelers.
"I would take Tony's situation day by day," Garrett said. "He did have two good days of practice last week. He did more than he had done the previous week. So we will take his situation day by day and see how he does tomorrow and Wednesday as we go forward and we will make some decision as we go."
