Here's what USA Today sports had to say about the incident:
Early Sunday morning, Ryan Lochte was with at least one U.S. teammate in a cab heading to meet up with Brazilian swimmer Thiago Pereira when the cab stopped to get gas, Ileana Lochte said.
She said the group was held up and confronted by people who had guns and knives.
Ileana Lochte said her son had his wallet taken but that was it. He notified her via text message afterward.
A spokesman for Pereira confirmed the incident. Flávio Perez, a Brazilian Olympic swimmer and spokesman for Pereira, told the Washington Post that Lochte was in a cab leaving a club when the taxi was robbed.
An official who was not named acknowledged that there was an "event."

Adams said Sunday during a daily briefing at the Rio Games that his information comes from the swimmer and the U.S. Olympic Committee.

A spokesman for the USOC said it was trying to get more information. Lochte's mother, Ileana Lochte, did not immediately return a call from The Associated Press.
Rio organizers spokesman Mario Andrada said he has been briefed on an "issue" involving the swimmer, but could not say if he was held at gunpoint.
USA Today and Fox Sports Australia both said Lochte was robbed and had his wallet stolen.
The 32-year-old Lochte swam in two events at the Rio Games, winning gold in the 4x200-meter freestyle relay.
