Rising NFC team on bringing in Adrian Peterson: “Never say never”

The intrigue continues.

Adrian Peterson remains unemployed as April approaches and there is plenty of intrigue as to where the future Hall of Fame running back will land for the 2017 NFL season and beyond. While no direct link has been made between the New York Giants and Peterson beyond speculation, head coach Ben McAdoo was prompted about whether his team would be interested in adding Peterson to the fold.

His answer, per Darin Gantt of Pro Football Talk, was "never say never."

McAdoo went on to reference Peterson as "a very talented player" with "a chip on his shoulder" and, needless to say, this isn't a firm denial from the Giants perspective. It should be noted that Peterson is, of course, 32 years old and he is seen by many as well beyond his prime as a ball carrier.

In the same breath, New York has struggled to generate a quality rushing attack in recent years and its depth chart isn't particularly sparkling. Youngster Paul Perkins is perhaps the most intriguing name alongside Shane Vereen (on third down) but the presence of those players likely wouldn't be enough to scare the Giants off a potential marriage with Peterson for the right price.

What is that price? That remains to be seen, but Ben McAdoo was complimentary of Peterson and this could be a partnership that works.
